How can Ignite For Women help and how does it work?

The four herbs – tribulus terrestris, damiana, horny goat weed and donq quai – which make up the Herbal Ignite formula have all been used for centuries in traditional medicine to rejuvenate women’s hormonal health.

In the last 30 years that traditional use has been supported by some scientific studies, but there is still a lot we do not understand about how exactly the active ingredients in the herbs work.

Tribulus – Traditional Use for Reproductive Enhancement

Tribulus terrestris has long been valued as an aphrodisiac, for urinary tract problems, and to restore hormone balance.

Active ingredients (primarily non anabolic steroidal saponens) in tribulus seem to do this by promoting the luteinizing hormone (LH) and the follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) – produced in both sexes by the pituitary gland.

Tribulus is a non-hormonal dietary supplement because the herb does not contain any of the three major hormonal compounds, estrogen, progesterone or testosterone.

But it does have a phyto-hormone action, improving the hormone status, without having a direct hormonal influence.

Studies show that while hormone levels are increased, they are never over stimulated (because the Tribulus does not contain any hormonal compounds).

This feature of Tribulus makes it especially valuable because it promotes balance in the body.

In this way Tribulus is unlike anabolic steroids which firstly stimulate, then over-stimulate, hormones.

The great benefit of assisting a return to balance for women with PMS or menopausal symptoms is that these symptoms are indicative of imbalance in the system. When the hormonal system is nourished to balance, symptoms of imbalance disappear.

And for those who have noticed a decline in libido, the balancing of the hormones also heralds a restoration of sexual desire and drive.

Damiana

Long used as a traditional aphrodisiac, recent scientific studies are beginning to provide further evidence of damiana’s benefits for sexual health, and as a relaxant, although the exact components involved are still being discovered.

Several studies utilizing animal testing have shown evidence of increased sexual activity in sexually exhausted or impotent male rats when exposed to damiana, as well as generally increased sexual activity in rats of both sexes.

(2009), “Evaluation of Aphrodisiac Activity of Turnera aphrodisiaca”, International Journal of Pharmacognosy and Phytochemical Research 1: 1–4)

Damiana is renowned for its libido enhancing qualities and positive effects on the reproductive organs, producing a feeling of mild euphoria which relaxes the whole body and reduces stress, anxiety, lifts mood and increases overall sexual sensitivity.

Damiana also helps to balance female hormone levels and control hot flushes and is the ultimate feel good herb.

It’s also said to relieve depression, headaches, and exhaustion during menstruation

For women, damiana stimulates muscular contractions of the intestinal tract and delivers oxygen to the genital area, increasing the sensitivity of the clitoris.

It balances female hormone levels, reduces vaginal dryness, increases the frequency and intensity of orgasms, and controls hot flashes.

Reassuringly scientists have confirmed that damiana does not have any effect on the female hormone oestrogen.

This means that there’s no risk attached to its use that it might cause oestrogen-related cancers – like breast cancer.

Damiana has an additional promising benefit: it can aid weight loss. Research conducted at the Department of Ultrasound, Medical Centre, Charlottenlund in Denmark found that the plant slows down the emptying of food from the stomach.

This means you feel full even after eating a small meal, which prevents over-eating and promotes good digestion.

Horny Goat Weed

Extracts of Horny Goat Weed have been shown in trials to improve mood, enhance sexual arousal and orgasm and may have benefits for bone health, in particular in alleviating osteoporosis.

A summary of scientific studies on Horny Goat Weed shows it:

  • Supports sexual activity
  • Increases blood flow to the genitals – heightening skin sensitivity
  • Assists with menopause symptoms like hot flushes
  • Increases desire – possibly by increasing dopamine and serotonin
  • Men reported an increase in their partner’s satisfaction
  • It acts somewhat as an androgen (sex hormone) and might stimulate sexual desire in women who are androgen-deficient
  • Recent Chinese research suggests it may assist in osteoporosis

Dong Quai

Known as the “female ginseng” dong quai is one of the most popular herbs in Chinese medicine. It is used primarily for women’s reproductive health, in particular for regulating the menstrual cycle, for PMS and for menopausal symptoms.

Thousands of years of traditional medicine plus more recent scientific studies have shown Dong Quai is effective for:

  • Regulating the menstrual cycle
  • Easing menstrual pain and cramping
  • Restoring normal menstrual cycles after taking “the Pill.”
  • Relieving hot flashes during menopause.
  • Reducing menopause-related mood swings and stress
  • Treating insomnia and blood pressure stability for both men and women
  • Balancing effect on estrogen levels to lift mood and stimulate central nervous system
  • Blood purifier and helping circulation
  • High in iron and can prevent anaemia

Although not used specifically to increase libido its effect on the overall body can help women feel more virile as again it has an effect on blood vessels which carry blood to the sexual organs. And because it has such a beneficial effect on other aspects of women’s reproductive health it supports and enhances how desirable and woman feels.
